Aaron.
Well it has been a week or so since I last logged on and I feel a bit guilty about that and I was meant to finish this on Friday but it didn't happen. So just a bit of a re-cap on the previous couple of weeks starting with the BIG ONE that Jesse and I did on the 28th Feb while Chris was playing with the Dolphin in Mahia and probably having a few more Nana Naps. I woke about 1.30am on Saturday morning for a call of nature to hear the first drops of rain on the roof which quickly became a downpour and I thought hear we go next I will be getting a text from Jesse to pull the pin on the run. I left home at 6.15am in the pouring rain convinced that I would be running the Tuki Marathon on my own but as I rounded the corner of Chambers I saw Jesse there which was good as I didn't fancy a solo run. I must have been really well hydrated as I managed no less than 4 decent toilet stops on the way round and that's just while I was running with the young fella, not to mention the stop on the way to meet him. We kept up a decent pace despite the horrendous weather conditions, and to finish the distance in 3hrs20mins was a real boost. It didn't hurt as much as the previous time with Chris but the mind and body were starting to cry out for the end as we pushed on up Te Mata road. The Domain was a welcome sight and I cannot tell you how pleased I was to complete the distance and adding on the 3-4km from home it was a really pleasing effort. I have to say that I was stoked to see Lucie and the kids just over half way round, it gave me a real boost and they came bearing bananas, Leppins and water and big smiles all round, thanks guys your support was and continues to be fantastic.
I think as a direct result of my naivety I ran too early the following week and picked up a little niggle but nothing to worry about. Had a couple of decent runs with Chris during the week and he was keen for another big Tuki loop on Saturday but I have managed to convince him to do another loop to include the Peak so looking forward to that....Kia Kaha Aaron
